The toxin solution | Centro Eos

Some stimuli in modern life contribute to our body becoming inflamed and can trigger diseases such as diabetes, cancer, or hypertension. We tell you what they are so that you can combat chronic inflammation through functional medicine.

Inflammation is a natural reaction of our body to various aggressors, such as viruses, bacteria, parasites, or toxic substances. This process allows us to combat the aggressor and, subsequently, repair the tissues.

However, various factors in modern life contribute to our body remaining inflamed: this is known as chronic low-grade inflammation, and it not only prevents the body from returning to a state of balance but can trigger diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and cancer, among others.

Why does inflammation, which is initially desirable, become a chronic phenomenon? The answer lies in many lifestyle factors, which our body cannot cope with adequately and, therefore, are the trigger of chronic inflammation. We mention the most frequent ones:

1. Processed foods that cause inflammation

With the arrival of agriculture and, above all, with the industrialization of food, we consume more and more processed foods that affect our intestinal bacteria. Altogether, some microorganisms that are necessary for the balance of our body disappear and others that are harmful to our body appear and multiply.

The consequence is that the immune system becomes defensive; That is, low-grade chronic inflammation is generated. Therefore, if we spend a lifetime eating the wrong food, we will spend a lifetime being inflamed.

2. Foods with pesticides and herbicides can also cause inflammation

Upon entering our bodies, these substances are recognized as threats. Our immune system develops a fighting response and inflames us to try to fight them. However, because we are exposed to them so frequently, the inflammation does not stop and becomes a persistent issue.

3. Pollution

There is an international consensus on the negative health impacts of breathing air with high concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) and respirable matter (PM 10).

The morbidity and mortality linked to these increases in pollution manifest themselves mainly through respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and lung cancer due to chronic inflammation.

4. Excess carbohydrates

When we eat excess carbohydrates, inflammation is generated; our insulin system is unable to process them sufficiently. As a consequence, toxic substances are generated in our body, known as “advanced glycation products”, which contribute to chronic inflammation. This is why some diseases such as diabetes generate great inflammation and subsequent deterioration in different organs of our body.

5. Chronic stress as an ally of chronic inflammation

Stress is necessary for our body’s defense. However, when it becomes a permanent state, it exhausts the body’s ability to calm sources of inflammation. Therefore, it becomes chronic.

6. Undetected chronic infections

Imagine, for example, that you have a bacteria known as H Pylori, which is a major source of chronic inflammation. The association between Helicobacter Pylori and the development of gastric cancer is well recognized, as the bacteria triggers inflammation.

But it is not just Helicobacter, as multiple viruses, bacteria, and parasites can become chronic and, therefore, cause the inflammation to persist for years.
